The story of Schiavo Steel began in Brooklyn, NY over 55 years ago when Bartholomew Schiavo started a small business that would ultimately become Schiavo Steel. Mr. Schiavo was an incredibly hard working and intelligent man. Starting with nothing but the desire to succeed, he created and cultivated the business into a successful and reputable company.
His ability to develop positive relationships with many general contractors and other members of the steel fabrication industry, allowed him to establish a positive reputation over a relatively short period of time. As business evolved, Schiavo, a husband and father of four, moved the company to a larger shop in Lindenhurst, NY.
Over the following decade, Schiavo Steel outgrew that location as well and moved the operation to our current location, in Bay Shore, NY.
After his untimely passing in 1991, his son, also named Bartholomew, took over management of the business. Bartholomew Jr. was a hard worker and a very talented layout man who was known for being able to draw a rough sketch on his brown paper lunch bag and build a complex staircase from it in no time. He brought his son Bart into the business in 2002, teaching him to weld and layout, along with an introduction to estimating. Bartholomew Jr. ran the business until 2007. At that time, he, due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident, made the decision to retire.
At that time, Bart, the third generation Schiavo, took over management of Schiavo Steel.
These were difficult times. The United States was suffering through a recession and Schiavo Steel struggled as well.
Bart Schiavo, with some guidance from his uncle, Michael Schiavo, implemented business management strategies that allowed the company not only to survive, but to return to the respected and highly capable business it was many years prior. Over the next few years, Bart dedicated himself to transforming Schiavo Steel into one of the most efficient and reputable fabricators on Long Island.
Today, Bart focuses his attention solely on managing and growing the business. He has the support of an extremely hard working and dedicated team in the shop, lead by his longtime foreman Michael Lagasse.
Michael has been with the company for over 15 years. His capabilities have evolved in tandem with the growth of the company. His expertise in maximizing productivity, managing workflow and improving efficiency allow Bart to focus on sales and management while knowing the shop’s operation is in very capable hands.
Through the effort our team provides, we are growing and continuing the legacy that Bartholomew built.
To the team and our valued customers, Thank You for helping to keep my Grandfather’s dream alive.
